I heard that this movie was being filmed a long time ago but wondered why I never saw it promoted. My wife and I went last night at the invitation of friends and all four of us absolutely loved it. If you truly love dogs and know how much they truly love you (if you give them the chance), you will love this movie. It is all about the unconditional love a dog has for his/her family (one person or many). After you see this movie (PETA folks should really go see it before they pick up their signs again) you will begin to know why Dog is GOD spelled backwards. We gave our four Samoyeds, a Border Collie and an aging Golden Retriever a special hug when they greeted us at the door when we got home last night. Take the whole family and bring along some Kleenex. Great movie! Had some great life lessons in it. Whole family enjoyed it, and everyone left happy! Dennis Quaid did a great job as usual.
I think that it gives some great perspectives on life. A dog's point of view definitely simplifies things. I feel that the point of the movie is to remember to enjoy the little things in life. While life can be hard, one must remember to enjoy the little things. If not, what's the point?
I also like how it shows different people's lives and their way of life.
If you are a dog person, you'll love it, go see it!
Being a "not dog" person, I wasn't sure I even wanted to watch this movie. But about 5 minutes in I was hooked. The writing and dialog kept the theater laughing. Peeking into the mind of a dog was just wonderfully done...fun, not too serious, adorable. Haven't we all wondered what our pet is thinking? And haven't we all wondered what the purpose of our lives really is? Bailey tries to answer this question with each life he lives. It's done beautifully with the end message being "Play", "Find someone who needs help and save them", "love". With the hatred spewing everywhere in the country right now, it was a much needed reminder that when it all comes down to it, we need to laugh, love, help one another.
Watching Bailey die, each time, brought tears to our eyes. But watching him reborn and still searching for that answer gave us hope. The theater actually cheered at the end when Ethan figured it all out. Bailey's purpose was to PLAY and show others how to play and laugh, SAVE and protect those that loved him and who needed loving without even knowing it, LOVE unconditionally his person. Help him find his happiness...and throw in a dog-horse for good measure.
This amazing film is the essence of the best selling book by W. Bruce Cameron brought to life. This is my all time favorite book and was so happy to see the author and his wife, and inspiration for this story, were the screenwriters. This is a film about connections, the ones we have with our pets. I laughed out loud during this movie and I yes, shed a few tears. Though surprisingly, not sad tears, but joyful ones that reminded me of the intense love I have currently and have had for all my pets. I highly recommend anyone who has, had or is considering a pet to rush out and see this movie. And for anyone just looking for a fun and uplifting experience, this is it. There is not film quite like it. And when you do, that joy and warm heart you feel as you exit the theater, stays with you. Upon returning home, I looked my boy in the eyes with a new appreciation for the love we share and gave him a huge grateful hug.
This is a wonderful, heartwarming film about a dog that lives several lives with different families via reincarnation. Oh yes, and the dog is the narrator too.
A little hokey? Yes.
A perfect film? No.
Does it satisfy the needs for parents wanting to take their kids to a film that celebrates how awesome dogs are? YES.
Will dog loving audiences enjoy this film, absolutely.
Given all the bad press and reviews of this film, I was expecting the theatre to be empty, but it was packed. Further, everyone applauded at the end. And it deserved that because it was fun and brought smiles and tears aplenty.
